TOXINS AS BIOLOGICAL
WARFARE AGENTS
A large variety of lethal
biological toxins exist. The agents that will be discussed in this section
are those which were found to have the necessary manufactured stability and
effectiveness to effect a large area coverage attack and cause mass casualties.
These toxins include Botulinum Toxin A, Ricin, and the incapacitating agent
Staphlococcal Enterotoxin B (SEB).
These toxins produce disease
effects by different mechanisms. Botulinum Toxin acts to block nerve
conduction, while Ricin is a potent cytotoxin which inhibits normal protein
synthesis in mammalian cells.
